Reveal Puzzle: 1 step equations

 I found this puzzle online (I apologize I forgot who made it) to practice one step equations. My goal is to always find resources that give immediate feedback while still including a little fun.


As students worked, I was able to monitor their work and see who was progressing and who wasn't on my goguardian (see below). 


Note that I am teaching a foundational class which generally means students don't believe in themselves and/or don't like math. I see my job as giving them faith in themselves and their abilities. It was well received. :)

Who Am I?

September 6, 2016 Here it goes. Starting a blog has been something I have been considering for a while. Its value seems obvious just as we are told to reflect on our everyday. Why tonight? Well this amazing mathematician once told me that he learned more from his experience blogging for himself than for other people. Now I can't fathom having the same experience as him, but it was worth a shot. He posted on twitter that today was his 10 year anniversary for blogging, so starting today seemed like a valid choice. Who you ask? None other than Dan Meyer! I have recently started my new position as a high school math TOSA in Southern California. After living and teaching in Boise, Idaho for 4 years, California was a change. I am originally from SoCal and have only been gone for 9 years, but my experience in education has only happened out of state. Webinar = Blog Hiatus

March 4, 2017 (FINALLY posted April 28, 2017)       So when Dan Meyer calls you out for not blogging saying "your a blog has gone dormant", you decide that it's time to pick it up again :-)   I have been having trouble deciding what to blog about. In my position (Instructional Coach aka. TOSA) I feel like if I'm not careful, I will start to complain which is unprofessional. I was having trouble balancing this feeling with talking about what is meaningful to me.  However, just because my blog has been silent, doesn't mean I haven't been busy! Over the past few months I had the opportunity to do a webinar through West Ed and the California Department of Education. The webinar series was called "Speaking and Listening" and I was asked to present with a focus on mathematics.
